What is Desire, Really?
Desire is a complex phenomenon made up of many parts. The foundational desire is the primal need for survival, a deeply ingrained instinct that drives us to seek food, shelter, and safety. Then, we fabricate more desire based on what we want and what others expect of us. These desires can be influenced by our social and cultural environment, our personal experiences, and our individual aspirations. We have been doing this since infancy, and now it seems desire has taken over our bodies and minds—so much so that we can't think of life without desire. Being a slave to our desires feels normal and, in some ways, natural and obvious.
