Speech and Insight Practice of the Three Poisons

People speak with their inner voice or outer voice. Since speaking is essential to life and we do it frequently, it is an excellent object for the insight practice of the Three Poisons. Before and while speaking, notice these things.

Is what I am saying or trying to say right now

a lie, slander, harsh words, or gossip?

Is it appropriate for the time, place, and relationship?

Are the tone or intonation of my voice appropriate?

Are my words helpful and pleasing to the other person?

Am I aware of the Three Poisons in my intentions, feelings, and bodily sensations, whether rough or subtle?

(Bodily sensations: movements of the lips, tongue, teeth, and saliva, and reactions of the muscles of the eyes, face, chest, and shoulders)

Practicing the above 10 to 20 times a day will be very helpful for insight practice.
